From the devices in our pockets to the bridges we cross, and from the clean water in our taps to the air we breathe, engineering touches every facet of our lives.
Each year, Engineers Week (February 22–28, 2026) serves as a vital moment to celebrate the brilliant minds who solve today's most complex challenges and to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers. This year’s theme, "Transform Your Future," is a powerful reminder that engineering doesn’t just build structures; it builds opportunities, strengthens communities and shapes the world we leave for our children.

At the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), engineering isn't just a profession, it’s one of our frontline defenses for the environment. Our engineers are the architects of a cleaner, safer South Carolina. Their expertise is woven into the very fabric of our mission.
Inspiring the "E" in STEMEngineers Week is more than a celebration; it’s a movement to show students that engineering is creative, collaborative and most importantly open to everyone. When students see how engineering makes a tangible difference in their own backyards, they begin to realize: this could be my future, too. To help spark that flame, our partners at DiscoverE.org offer free resources, including hands-on activities and lesson plans to help educators and parents focus on the "E" in STEM.
Are you a problem-solver at heart? If you’re passionate about environmental protection and making a lasting impact in South Carolina, we want to meet you.
SCDES is currently seeking dedicated professionals to join our team.
Whether you are a seasoned professional, a student curious about STEM, or a citizen grateful for clean water, we invite you to celebrate with us. Join the conversation this week by mentoring a student, visiting a classroom, or exploring a new career path with SCDES.
Together, we aren't just celebrating a profession, we are designing a sustainable future for all of South Carolina.
