Proposed Project
The SCDES Bureau of Coastal Management (BCM) received a critical area permit application (HQP-HA96-0NPG4) from Kane Island Development Company, LLC to construct a community dock and boat ramp at 5 Cane Island Farm Rd, Beaufort, SC 29902 (R123 018 000 0076 0000). The proposed community dock will consist of a 6' x 96' walkway with handrails leading to a 39' x 41' fixed pierhead. A 25' x 35' portion of the pierhead will be covered by a roof. On the ebb side of the walkway, there will be a 9.5' x 17' gangway platform with a 5' x 65' gangway leading to a 10' x 125' floating dock. At the base of the gangway there will be a 10' x 10' gangway landing float. On the floodside of the floating dock there will be a covered 3' x 8' fishing cleaning station. Water and electricity will be supplied to the dock. On the ebb side of the proposed community dock, the applicant proposes a 17' x 128' concrete boat ramp with 113 cubic yards of riprap around the ramp for erosion control. The purpose of the community dock and boat ramp is to serve the residents of Kane Island. (Note: The courtesy dock parallel to the proposed boat ramp has been removed from the proposal by the applicant since it was originally placed on public notice and is no longer part of the proposed project.)
